Are you wearing your computer socks today?

computer socksTo be honest neither am I. But I was amused to discover they actually exist. High-tech Computer Socks, from Holeproof, are apparently famous for ‘falling up, not down.’ And while I think Newton would have had something to say about those physics it seems they’re specially designed - invented in the 1970s - to ‘push’ themselves up. That’s all well and good when it comes to work. But what about play? How about Beer Socks? Perhaps they’d keep wearers ‘propped’ against the bar. Wear Beer Socks. Fall up, not down…

How about Love Socks? You can guess the rest…

Brilliant - very funny and can’t believe they actually sell these things. Well found! Would love to hear if people actually wear these?

I visited a Podiatrist today as part of managing my newly diagnosed Diabetic condition and asked him about “special” socks required to maintain blood circulation in the feet and he said “Don’t buy special diabetic socks, go to Target and get Holeproof Computer socks, same thing and half the price, So while a sock that ‘falls’ up may be amusing to some they are theraputic to Diabetes sufferers!

I remember a commercial for something like these back in the 80’s.

The scene was in the Patent Office where Newton (with his apple) was waiting in line to patent gravity. Just ahead of him were two gentlemen, one with a sort of helmet that beeped and whirred, another with a pair of socks.

The guy with the socks was excitedly telling Newton about how the elastic in the socks caused them to fall up the leg instead of down. The helmeted guy’s number was called, and he whacks into the doorframe (the helmet covers his eyes)as he walks into the next office, causing the helmet to sound an alarm. Newton, hearing how socks would fall up, rethinks his idea to patent gravity and eats his apple.

Funny commercial, and I know I’ve forgotten things, but that’s the gist of it…

I just got a pair for Christmas. I had forgot they ever existed and was surprised to see they are still being manufactured. They do seem to stay up, but most socks tend to anyhow.

Terry (February 17, 2009), I am also a diabetic. Perhaps the person who gave them to me was being even more thoughtful than I imagined.

They are a blend of 65% wool, 30% cotton and 5% Lycra.

It is good to see they are still made in Australia!

A thoughtful opinion and ideas I will use on my website. You’ve obviously spent a lot of time on this. Thank you!
